Unmigrated, Migrated, or Adoptable

This page is designed to help you identify a ring you wish to join or adopt. Below you'll find definitions and graphics to demonstrate the explanations.

Unmigrated
Unmigrated rings are those which have not had active management since the migration away from Yahoo! ().
This could be due to the manager's loss of interest, loss of password, refusal to adapt to the Yahoo! ring system, or an unresolved system malfunction during migration.

Characteristics of an unmigrated ring's hub page:

  • Link to "home" instead of the categorization located under the ring title.
  • Contains left column link "Contact RingMaster"
  • Does not contain left column link identifying RingMaster's Y!ID
  • Does not contain left column link "RingMaster's Site"
Unmigrated rings are being adopted on a limited basis to members, applicants, or any interested party. To make a request, use the Unmigrated Ring Adoption Form in this site's Ring Adoption Agency.

Migrated
Migrated rings are those which were created since the migration away from Yahoo! () or migrated with an ID since that date.
In many cases it means the ring is being managed. But this does not guarantee that applications will be addressed. Some RMs migrate thinking it will keep their ring from being reassigned.

Characteristics of an migrated ring's hub page:

  • Link located under the ring title contains the categorization designated by the manager.
  • Contains left column link "Contact RingMaster"
  • Contains left column link identifying RingMaster's ID
  • May contain left column link "RingMaster's Site"
Migrated rings are not adoptable except through the the "invite new manager" option exercised by the manager or by reassignment by WebRing. Members in good standing are given first opportunity to adopt these rings

Adoptable
Most of these are part of the old Adoptable Ring Program from before September 5, 2000. Others are failed transfers, either unresolved system malfunctions during transfer or no member accepted the offer.

Characteristics of an adoptable ring's hub page:

  • Link located under the ring title may contain the categorization designated by the manager. (Those which do not are from the ARP.)
  • May contain left column link "Contact RingMaster" (If the categorization is there, so will be the contact link.)
  • Does not contain left column link with RingMaster's ID
  • May contain left column link "RingMaster's Site"
Adoptable rings are the EASIEST to obtain. Visit the Help Club and post the hub URL of the ring.
